Dear Parents/Guardians,

Due to the lack of interest in the lotto, we, as a committee, have no choice but to end the lotto draw in the school.

We would like to thank the parents who supported the school by buying a ticket each week.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The Parents' Association meet on the second Thursday each month at 8:00pm in the Parents Room in Old Bawn Community School. We act as a forum to represent Parents/Guardians ideas and issues. We can be contacted through the school and welcome your ideas and input.  The following are the areas we are involved in;

Allianz Pupil Insurances 2008 - 2009

The Parents Association is involved in negotiating annual insurance costs per student. The rates are very reasonable and availing of this is recommended. It should be noted that bicycles are not covered under this policy.

Weekly Lotto:    

We organise and run the Weekly Lotto. We need New Sellers and Buyers.  The Lotto costs 1.50euro per week .We welcome anyone who can assist on Tuesday evenings 7:30 pm– 9pm in drawing the winners.

Bereavement Counselling:

The Parents' Association make an annual contribution towards this essential service.

Sponsorship for the “Young Scientist of the Year” Competition:

We part Sponsor the entrants for the Young Scientist Exhibition Competition. In 2006 we financed students for Science Summer School which resulted in  3 successful projects competing in the 2007 Exhibition. One of these won their category, and another received a special mention. All thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Exhibition. Momentum is gathering for participation in the 2009 Young Scientist Exhibition Competition and students are deciding on their submissions as we write.

Scholarships for Language Courses:

Draw held annually.

We run a competition in the school and award 10 Half Scholarships:

4 x €300.00 for residential Gaeltacht (Donegal, Galway etc): and for daily attendance in Dublin based courses - 2x €150.00 French:  2 x €150.00 German and 2 x €150.00 Gaeltacht. Contact the Language teachers in the school for details of colleges and literature available.

Annual Talent Show:

We  run a “ Shop” at the show during interval: Drinks ,bars and crisps are available .We  supply ,free of charge , beverages and drinks to the participants of the Talent Show, Stage hands, and all Security Staff. We present all the competitors with a “Memento” pen in thanks for their participation in the Show.

Display of Musical Talent and Ability:

There is an “Evening of Music” held by the Music Students for their parents/guardians .We supply beverages and refreshments.

Debutante Night:

We assist students elected to the Debs Committee to organise the date, venue, and financial issues for this important evening.

Presentation to 6th Year Students on Graduation:

A presentation of a Pen as a keepsake to the students who have completed their studies with Old Bawn Community School is held annually  

Gym Equipment:  

The Parents Association have donated €2,000.00 towards the purchase of Gym Equipment for the school                      

The above is just a “sample” of the works of the Parents Association. As you can appreciate, all of the above requires funding and cooperation from Parents/Guardians.    We would appreciate your assistance and hope that you would take a Weekly Lotto Ticket to assist in financing   the above activities.
