Gaisce and the President’s Award

Gaisce is a personal development program for young people aged 15 and over to dream big and fulfil their potential.

Participants undergo challenges in four key areas;

Personal skill, community involvement, physical recreation and an adventure journey.

Here in Old Bawn many of our students chose to either learn a musical instrument, take part in drama, become qualified lifeguards or learn first aid for their personal skill. In community involvement, many of our students chose to either get in involved in the local primary schools, visit elderly neighbours or the Habitat for Humanity project. Physical recreation is any sport where you are active, horse riding, Gaelic football hurling, camogie or couch to 5k. In our adventure journey our students undertake a two day overnight adventure journey to Achill Island along the coast of County Mayo. Cycling over 100km along the spectacular scenery of the great western greenway.

We have been very successful in Old Bawn with many brilliant students completed the Gaisce challenge and achieve the Gaisce award from the office of the President of Ireland.
