Coding

Coding at Old Bawn Community School

At Old Bawn Community School, coding is more than just a subject—it’s a gateway to creativity, problem-solving, and future-ready skills.

We are proud to offer a dynamic and inclusive coding programme that empowers students from all year groups to explore the digital world with confidence.

Curriculum Integration & Innovation

Coding is embedded across the curriculum through the Junior Cycle Coding Short Course, Transition Year modules, and the Leaving Certificate Computer Science syllabus.

Coding in Minecraft

We are also excited to introduce Coding in Minecraft, a game-based computer science curriculum developed by Prodigy Learning. This innovative programme allows students to learn coding through the immersive world of Minecraft, combining fun with foundational programming concepts.

With student licences secured for 2025/26, our students will gain access to a structured curriculum and official certification. Onsite training and support ensure that our staff are fully equipped to deliver this engaging learning experience.

Digital Wellbeing & Support

Coding is also part of our Integr8 Programme, which supports student wellbeing through digital and educational modules. These include touch typing, organisational skills, and healthy internet usage, ensuring that students not only learn to code but also develop responsible digital habits.

Empowering Girls in STEM

We are committed to promoting gender equality in technology. Our TY girls have participated in the Microsoft STEM Passport for Girls, gaining hands-on experience in coding and digital innovation at Microsoft’s DreamSpace in Sandyford.
