Basketball

Basketball

Basketball is thriving at Old Bawn Community School, offering students of all ages the chance to develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy the spirit of teamwork both on and off the court.

Our facilities have seen significant investment in recent years, including the resurfacing of our outdoor courts and the installation of high-quality indoor basketball hoops and backboards that meet FIBA standards.

These upgrades ensure that our students train and play in a safe, professional environment—rain or shine.

“Her Moves” programme

We are proud to run a variety of basketball programmes throughout the year. One of our standout initiatives is the “Her Moves” programme, a six-week lunchtime series designed to encourage girls’ participation in sport.

Delivered in partnership with Templeogue Basketball Club, the programme has been a huge success, with full attendance and enthusiastic feedback from students and staff alike.

Leadership, Fun, and
Team Spirit

Our boys’ teams are equally active, with regular trials and league participation. Senior students often mentor younger players, fostering leadership and camaraderie across year groups.

Events like Sports Day also feature basketball-themed challenges, such as timed dribbling races, which add a fun and competitive edge to the school’s sporting calendar.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, basketball at Old Bawn is about more than just the game—it’s about community, confidence, and connection. We welcome all students to get involved, stay active, and be part of something exciting.
