Hurling at Old Bawn Community School

Hurling is a cherished tradition at Old Bawn Community School, woven into the fabric of our sporting and community life. Over the years, our students have developed skills, built friendships, and celebrated many successes on the pitch.

A Legacy of Passion
and Dedication

The late John Kinnarney, former Maths and Science teacher, is fondly remembered for his love of hurling and his commitment to coaching and mentoring students.

His legacy lives on in the school’s ethos, where encouragement and support for young hurlers remain central.

Competitive Spirit and Achievements

Old Bawn Community School fields teams at Senior, Junior, and Juvenile levels, regularly competing in Dublin Post Primary Schools Championships. In recent years, our Senior team celebrated a decisive victory in the Senior C1 Hurling Final, defeating Lusk Community College 5-11 to 1-6 in Abbotstown.

Our Juvenile team also reached the Dublin Schools D Hurling Championship Final, demonstrating skill and determination even in defeat.

Facilities and Equipment

The school is committed to providing the best facilities and equipment for our hurlers. Regular orders for helmets, kit bags, bibs, cones, and sliotars ensure that both junior and senior teams are well supplied and safe on the field.

We also benefit from strong links with local clubs, including Thomas Davis and St. Anne’s, whose pitches serve as our home turf and whose support helps nurture talent in our students

Community and Inclusion

Hurling at Old Bawn is about more than competition—it’s about community, inclusion, and personal growth.

Students are encouraged to participate regardless of experience, and many have gone on to achieve success at club and county level.

The school’s ethos of caring for the community is reflected in the way hurling brings students, staff, and families together.

Celebrating Our Coaches and Players

Our coaches, teachers, and support staff play a vital role in fostering a love of hurling and developing the next generation of players. Their dedication ensures that every student has the opportunity to learn, compete, and enjoy the game.

Hurling at Old Bawn Community School is more than a sport—it’s a tradition, a community, and a source of pride. Whether on the pitch or in the classroom, the spirit of hurling inspires our students to strive, succeed, and support one another.
