Transition Year
Transition Year at Old Bawn Community School
Transition Year at Old Bawn Community School is a vibrant and enriching experience that empowers students to grow beyond the classroom. The programme blends academic exploration with practical learning, offering workshops, trips, and personal development opportunities.
A key feature of our TY programme is strong community engagement – students participate in initiatives such as Wellbeing Week, Cultural Week, and Integr8+, and collaborate with local organisations through guest speaker events, volunteering, and work placements. These experiences foster empathy, leadership, and a sense of civic responsibility. Whether it’s supporting local causes, engaging with parents and community leaders, or representing the school in public forums, our TY students learn the value of active citizenship and inclusive education.
Student Testimonials
Our students consistently describe Transition Year as a transformative experience. Participants in the Girls in Analytics programme, run in partnership with Accenture, have shared how the hands-on data projects and mentorship from female data scientists helped them discover new interests and build confidence in STEM subjects. One student remarked,
“I never thought I’d enjoy analytics, but working on a real-world project with a team and seeing how data can solve problems was amazing.”
Another student involved in community outreach shared,
“Helping out during Cultural Week and meeting people from different backgrounds made me realise how much we can learn from each other. TY gave me the space to grow and find my voice.”
These testimonials reflect the heart of our TY programme—empowering students to explore, connect, and thrive.
